Tips for technology in the classroom (movie #2)

I had trouble making this movie because of the conversion software. My camera is a point and shoot digital camera with video and it records in MOV. format which does not convert easily. Anyway, this is what I did and I hope it will help. Since I will be a "social studies" teacher, these are some of my ideas for imaging in my classroom.
Tips for using camera's in the classroom.

1- Use a camera to photograph historical sites
2- Photograph historical buildings
3- Since we are a social studies class, photograph current social events such as, gatherings of people for social or political purposes. Parades, protests, rallies etc.
4- The use of photographs is an excellent way to record current events that will shape history
5- When photographing people always be careful not to offend them
6- In a public setting photography is legal unless the sponsors of the event ask you not to photograph. At that point stop

Tips for Prezi

This was quite fun actually. As I have said before, I'm not all that tech savy but this was fairley easy. Here are my tips for Prezi:

1- Watch the tutorials. They are good and actually help. I watched them several times in sections to review and they really helped

2- Play around with the things and learn. What can you loose by trying

3- Keep it simple. Just like Power Point, simple is sometimes better

4- Watch out for motion sickness... Prezi moves a lot so be careful. With enough time between slides with instruction, this shouldn't be a real problem

5- Once again, HAVE FUN!!!

Tips on using a Power Point

Power Point presentatnios can be very useful or very boring. It all depends on how they are used.

1- DO NOT READ DIRECTLY FROM POWER POINT! This is the quickest way to loose your class.

2- Make slides simple and attractive. Use bullet points to introduce topics and expound verbaly not through text

3- Give students a hand-out that they should take note on from your Power Point

4- Use Power Points sparingly. To much of a good thing is too much

5- Allow students to create their own Power Points. Learning technology is fun and researching topics for projects is one of the best ways to review/remember information

6-Like everything, Keep it fun!
